Abstract
The amount of Ṣadaqah al-Fiṭr has been determined with a whole Ṣā’ of dates, barley, oatmeal, or raisins. Because these things were the basic food for the people of Madīnah at that time, and as for wheat, its amount was determined by a full Ṣā’ in some hadiths, and in some other hadiths, its amount was determined by half a Ṣā’. Therefore, there is a need to reconcile the disparity between these different hadiths in the amount of wheat between a Ṣā’ and half of it.
Consequently, wheat was not the basic food of the people of Medina, and it was also of high value in relation to their basic food (like: barley, dates, raisins, and aqṭ) at that time; That is why some of the Companions -May God be pleased with them- thought that half a Ṣā’ of it, is equaled to a full Ṣā’ of their basic food. But in our homeland Pakistan the situation has completely changed; So wheat became our basic food, and then it did not remain of high value in our homeland, Pakistan, in relation to the values of other Ṣadaqah al-Fiṭr funds (for example: barley, dates, raisins, and aqṭ. Therefore, the problem arose with determining the amount of wheat in Ṣadaqah al-Fiṭr in our country, Pakistan, after changing the situation.
As for this paper, it will try to reconcile the disparity between these different hadiths in a way that does not require rejecting some of them by taking others. Furthermore, it will also search for the amount of wheat for the people of Pakistan after changing their basic diet to wheat.
