Abstract

This paper explores the concept of Tawhid, the fundamental principle of the Oneness of God in Islamic theology, and its implications for understanding cosmic unity. Tawhid transcends the metaphysical domain, extending beyond the Creator-creation relationship to encompass the entire universe as a manifestation of divine oneness. Islamic scholars, from classical to contemporary, have emphasized that all creation is interconnected, with its existence and functioning rooted in the singular source of Allah’s will. Through this lens, the cosmos is perceived not as a fragmented entity but as a harmonious whole, reflective of divine unity. The paper traces how Islamic mystics, particularly within Sufism, have interpreted Tawhid not just as a theological doctrine but as an experiential reality where the multiplicity of the cosmos reflects the unity of the Creator. The cosmos, in this view, is a continuous testimony to the presence of God, with every element within creation having its origin and purpose in Him. This principle of unity also shapes Islamic views on ecology and the environment, leading to the idea that the care for creation is an extension of the worship of God. The paper concludes by suggesting that the Islamic concept of cosmic unity offers a profound ethical framework for contemporary global challenges, advocating for the recognition of interconnectedness in addressing issues like environmental degradation and social division.Tawhid
