Abstract
Purpose: This paper examines how the military government of Zia-ul Haq from 1977 to 1988 pushed the leftist forces into decline during the Movement for the Restoration of Democracy (MRD) in Sindh.
Design/ Methodology / Approach: The paper adopts an inductive method by analyzing both primary and secondary sources. These sources included research articles and books. This study is based on reflective, critical assessments, and situational analysis of the decline of leftist movements in Sindh.
Findings: This research reveals that leftist forces in Pakistan have consistently been a marginalized group and have received minimal support from the general population. These forces were severely suppressed by the Military regime during the MRD struggle against the Martial Law of Zia-ul-Haq.
Implications/originality / Value : The influence of religious organizations and feudal elites was reinforced. Consequently, the influence of leftist politics in Sindh diminished irreversibly.
